Did you know the average life expectancy for a man today is 84 while the woman is 90? That's probably where the saying of 40 is the new 30 comes from now that people are making conscientious efforts to stay healthy. With that said, there are still rules to dress age appropriately. Since I've been and will forever be 32, I recruited my college intern- Allie to style this post for the 20-Something. It's refreshing to get a different perspective, isn't it?
The next time you go on a date, keep these general rules and styling tips in mind:
The 20-Something- With limited income as you begin your career, and probably paying off college debt; don't worry about designer duds. Be fun and fashion-forward. Trendy items can be fleeting, so if you can invest in a few pieces, think about a blazer or a bag. P.s., now is the time to show off those sexy legs.
The 30-Something- At this point, you have a steady stream of income, but need to set aside a bit for the rainy days. Be confident and chic. Mix high and low fashion. Do treat yourself when you can because how you dress does have an affect on career development and how others perceive you. Like it or not, it's reality!
The 40-Something- Life is hectic whether you're a stay-at-home mom or career woman. Don't forget to go on dates as it can save your sanity. Be comfortable yet sexy. If 5 inch stilettos is a thing of the past, opt for chunky heels or wedges. If you're not thrilled with your flabby arms (but vow to work on it...starting tomorrow), wear short or 3/4 sleeved dresses. Don't cover up too much as if you just escaped from a convent. Highlight your assets like your décolleté or lean legs.
