Happy New Year everyone!  While Pre-Fall 2014 is currently showing on runways and at studios, for immediate gratification, I am more excited to see what's hitting stores now- Resort collections.

Originally, Resort wear (aka Cruise wear) were meant to target the affluent customers who were expected to travel post-holidays to warm weather destinations.  Over the years, Resort wear has become the fifth or sixth season after Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter to many designers.  It's a tossup between Pre-Fall and Resort collections.  With 200+ labels showing their collections for 2014, Resort is undoubtedly bigger than ever. Deliveries are made now, and if the stores are lucky, these will blow out.  Realistically though, some of these deliveries will hang in stores for the longest span of time, which usually sets the tone for Spring trends.

Among webbed lace, vibrant-colored suede, and miniskirts, the usual nautical style inspired by sailor and yachting themes, easy elegance of the billowy trousers, and tropical prints are all evident this season.  Here are the best collections for my pick of the top 5 Resort trends:

1.  Jason Wu for crop tops & tropical prints.  Palm leaves were throughout his ultra chic collection.
2.  Cedric Charlier for easy polished looks with vibrant colors and light weight fabrics
3.  Chloe for relaxed, billowy trousers.  Stovepipe pants are said to be done, but I disagree.  Alexis Mabille's pant above is timeless.
4.  Fendi for top-handled tote. This particular one happens to be made with light weight denim- another hot trend for Resort.
5.  N21/Alessandro Dell'Acqua for graphic lace, and bold floral prints.
